Bhashavaad, with its foundations in the thinking and practice of translation, was established two years ago to foster conversations among Indian languages across reading, writing, publishing, and policy-making. As literary multilingualism becomes less common, Bhashavaad serves as an essential platform for a multifaceted and diverse dialogue. The Conference has seen significant growth, from 30+ speakers & 400+ attendees in 2024 to 60+ speakers & 600+ attendees in 2025. Over two highly successful editions, it has brought together some of the leading names in the Indian literary sphere, discussing topics ranging from translating knowledge and translators’ visibility to the related economic, social, legal, and digital questions. The Conference has also initiated a unique, searchable database of translations in India (bhashavaad.in), with 30,000+ entries and counting.
